Artwave is the annual visual arts festival for Lewes District, East Sussex and features exciting open houses, open studios, exhibitions, workshops and other special events. Artwave started fifteen years ago to showcase the work of artists and makers living and working within the Lewes District. Its constant success and growing enthusiasm from artists and makers has made it a popular event in the regional arts calendar.
When is Artwave?
Artwave usually opens on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend and runs for two weeks (including three weekends). Artwave 2009 is scheduled for 29 August to 13 September 2009.
Who can participate in Artwave?
Any artist or maker can exhibit as part of Artwave, there is no jury selection process. However, venues should be based within the Lewes District Council boundaries or have specific links to the district. Venues can offer single or collaborated artist exhibitions.
How much is it to participate in Artwave and what does this include?
The entry fee for Artwave 2008 was £55 per venue. However changes to the pricing structure are being considered for the 2009 event.
- A listing in the Artwave brochure with a full colour image and descriptive text
- A listing on the Artwave website (this site) with a full colour image, text and a link to your own website
- Up to 50 brochures and up to 5 artwave posters for your own distribution
- Invitation to attend the Artwave media launch to network and have direct contact with local media and gain press opportunities
- Benefits from the local and regional media campaign
Artists on a budget are encouraged to collaborate with others to share costs and utilise resources.
How to I apply to become part of Artwave 2009?
Applications have now closed for Artwave 2008, but if you are interested in participating in next years event please submit your details to receive an application in Spring 2009.
