A Showcase of Inspirational Art from the Lewes District.

Artists throughout the Lewes District are once again creating beautiful and inspiring pieces of art for the Artwave 2008 festival, running from August 23rd – September 7th.

Organised by Lewes District Council, and now in its 15th year, Artwave is regarded as one of the regions leading art festivals, showcasing many creative art forms.

Spreading throughout the district, Artwave is a major cultural event covering the Lewes area, including venues in Lewes, Ditching, Plumpton and Chailey. From farm houses to framing shops, gardens to garages, visual art is displayed for all to enjoy and is an absolute must for any creative diary.

"Don't be fooled into thinking that Artwave is purely for the traditionalist, there is no fixed criteria so be prepared for some very original material." said Artwave Festival Co-ordinator Paula Da Luz.

This year we have gone behind the scenes to meet some of the participants and give you a sneak preview of what’s to come.

"There are many more artists exhibiting this year and what ever your artistic preference we are sure that visitors to the open houses and studios across the Lewes District will enjoy the variety that Artwave has to offer and hopefully be inspired" said Paula.

Budding artists can also be part of Artwave, by entering the annual competition with a £100 cash prize sponsored by the Order of Bards Ovates & Druids. This year’s theme is 'Elements' which conjures up inspiration from the natural world around us and can be open to interpretation in any art form.
